Krafton Faces Serious Allegations BGMI Future in India at Stake

In September 2024, Santosh Torane, a resident of Maharashtra, filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Krafton India Pvt. Ltd. and four of its executives. Torane alleges that his personal information was unlawfully disclosed and sold to third parties via Telegram, reportedly fetching around ₹2,000 per subscriber.

Legal Proceedings and Krafton Response

Following the FIR, the Judicial Magistrate First Class directed the Akluj police to investigate the matter under Section 156(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code. In response, Krafton India filed two writ petitions in the Bombay High Court seeking to halt the investigation. The High Court has consolidated these petitions and scheduled a hearing for April 15, 2025.

The allegations against Krafton have reignited fears of another potential ban on BGMI. The game had previously faced a 10-month ban starting in July 2022 due to concerns over data sharing with China, given that Tencent, a Chinese company, holds a significant stake in Krafton.
